A Marvellous Light by Freya Marske

I will start with the things I loved like: the scenery descriptions, the character's dynamics, Robin and Edwin’s relationship progress, the way the world-building isn’t that confusing, and the easy magic system.
now for the things, I hated I understand this is set in an “Edwardian UK” and maybe the author wanted to follow history or some shit but some of these things are so incredibly annoying. The part where women cant have magic as good as men even if they were heir to a magical family is weird and useless I tried waiting to the end to see if it will hold any meaning or connection to the plot but there was absolutely no reason for it to be there. the joke that was made to Adelaide (an Indian character that works as a typist for robin) was a very disgusting stereotype of Indians and it nearly made me DNF this. not mentioning of course how off-putting that scene was when she and robin first met. as for the homophobia, it’s a minor aspect but still, a useless one I wish the book didn’t include it because frankly, the book sounds ridiculous making characters see the future but not have same-sex relationships

in conclusion: this could have done so much better.
