We get more and more reflection on the relationship from Shiro's POV and though some people find the relationship between the two men a bit strained and unlogical (why are they together), I think that it is intentional to feel that Shiro is sometimes just a prick to Kenji. He seems to realize it too though and I hope he'll figure it out in the future volumes.
