This book made me feel so many emotions. I wasn't sure what to expect going into this last installment of the ACOTAR series. I was one of those who did not really like Nesta since the first book. Her rude and aloof demeanor just irked me but I was always very curious about her and what made her act this way. So I was glad that she got a redemption arc in this series and I found that I related to Nesta heavily. I will say that the first half of the book is pretty slow. It is not as compelling as the first three books as far as events go but as I read along I began to understand that this book is more about Nesta's journey through self acceptance and self love. Is this story somewhat predictable? Yes. Is there an insane amount of smut? Oh yes. However, I did not mind those things what so ever because this book is just a beautiful example of friendship, perserverance, overcoming fears, and opening the heart to love. I wish I could read this book again for the first time.
Favorite Quotes:
• She felt like she'd spent her life surrounded by boys, and then a man - a male, she supposed - had suddenly appeared. Everything about him had radiated that confident, arrogant masculinity. It had been heady and overwhelming, and all she'd wanted, all she'd wanted for so many months, was to touch him, smell him, taste him. Get close to that strength and throw everything she was against it because she knew he'd never break, never falter, never balk.
• "You are a lord in good deeds. It is not a title born, but earned."
• "These tears mean you care. I am going to tell you that it is not too late, not for any of it. And I can't tell you when, or how, but it will get better. What you feel, this guilt and pain and self-loathing--you will get through it. But only if you are willing to fight. Only if you are willing to face it, embrace it, and walk through it, to emerge on the other side of it. And maybe you will still feel that tinge of pain, but there is another side. A better side."
• "I've seen what you can do when you are willing to fight for the people you love. Why not apply that same bravery and loyalty to yourself? Don't say you don't deserve it. Everyone deserves happiness. The road there isn't easy. It is long, and hard, and often traveled utterly blind. But you keep going. Because you know the destination will be worthwhile."
