House of Sky and Breath by Sarah J. Maas
5.0
This was so enjoyable, it was still way longer than it needed to be but it's also so much better than the first book in so many aspects. Obviously its Sarah J. Maas so expect the usual growling/ snarling/ mating/ earth shaking and mind shattering sex scenes.
While the first book was essentially a murder mystery, this book just expanded the scope of the story multi folds with so many power players, each with different motives coming out to play. Since we got the bulk of world building done in Book 1 - the expansion of the world in this one felt smooth and authentic. It read so easy and accessible despite being so complex.
The plot here drives the characters. For the majority of story the characters truly aren't sure what they are working towards or what their end goals are. They just keep getting caught up in shit situations and kinda keep figuring stuff out as they go along until they finally decide to take a stand and do something. There were definitely some plot conveniences ( Danika I am looking at you) but there were also some pretty great plot twists. Some of which I saw coming, some I didn't but all of them were so shocking.
Like all of Sarah J. Maas's book, this one too has a vast cast of characters who are truly amazing. I loved all the smaller and bigger character moments and all the different relationship development that we got. The banter between characters was so fun and I had a great time just reading about them being silly and enjoying themselves despite all the problems of the world- It just made me so happy. All the love to the boys gang. I loved the romance and the romance development between Bryce and Hunt - Sexy and sweet, just perfection - they are quickly becoming one of my favourite SJM couple. However, Ruhn's arc truly stole the show - I loved every moment of his perspective. We got so much from him in this book and I was living for it.
The ending was wild and explosive. I feel like we were headed in that direction for a while but now that we are here, I am not sure how I feel about it. I think it all depends on how she ends up executing it in the next book. She is trying to pull some Sanderson level shit over here and I am here for it but I am also worried of how she will tie everything up in just one book.
Overall, this was a 5⭐ purely based on how this book made me feel and how much it messed up with my head emotionally.
I have so many theories though!
