I have so many mixed feelings about this. I loved it but it also took me a while to get into it and feel attached or anything to any of the characters. I do love how both Madoc and Ash are so different but also the same. They struggle with the same issues, they struggle with the same beliefs, yet at the end they both feel like they only have themselves. 

I did enjoy seeing how a gladiator fight with powers would possibly go and it’s very interesting and honestly wish I had more of that. As it was such an important part of the book yet we only got the details of a few fights, getting most in recaps or not even occurring. I do hope in the second book we not only explore more of everyone’s relationship but get to see more about the world itself and explore the gods we’ve only heard of but haven’t met yet.
