Horror doesn't always lend itself to be easily summarized.
However, do consider Camp Damascus by Chuck Tingle as one worth experiencing.
Thank you to Tor Nightfire for my gifted copy for review!
Rose Darling is a young woman raised by her deeply religious parents as a member of the Kingdom of the Pine congregation. Being gay doesn't fit well among the church members and "Kingdom Kids".
In their home community of Neverton is Camp Damascus, a conversion camp that promises 100% success in making it's campers "ex-gay".
It's methodology is a mystery, but Rose's curiosity opens the door to some terrifying visions and physical occurrences.
While a horror novel, the story is told with a darkly wry tone that made for a quick and enjoyable read for me. It's not heavy on gore, though we know gore isn't the only thing that makes for horror - this is "demonic conversion therapy".
Recommended!
Released on July 18.
