becky chambers has transformed space opera. her stories are so humane and so quietly powerful; seemingly mundane, they creep up on you. she has such an eye for character, and a creativity for world-building. but the most profound thing about her stories is her ability to inject humanity and kindness and empathy into her high sci-fi world. it's just incredible.
