The Wager by David Grann
3.0
In this tale of shipwreck, survival and savagery, the author of Killers of the Flower Moon recounts the events on His Majesty's Ship The Wager, a British vessel that left England in 1740 on a secret mission, resulting in a court martial that revealed a shocking truth.
The research the author did for this novel is unmatched. I’m not sure how any account of this wreck - or its crew - survived. Definitely 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
But I grew weary of scurvy and starvation and death. It seemed unnecessarily long.
But truly how anyone survived is a miracle.
Also likely better to read the print version than listen to the audiobook. It was difficult to keep track of all the crew. And I’m sure there were maps and other illustrations that would have been helpful.
