A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier by Ishmael Beah

5.0

Andrea Dykstra said "In order to love who you are, you cannot hate the experiences that shaped you." She couldn't be further from the truth. Ishmael Beah, 12 year old child with a promising bright, future, was a casualty of war. 'A Long Way Gone' is a devastating story of war through the eyes of a child ex-soldier. ⁣

The vivid, haunting, poetic tale is told in 1st person narration (in flashbacks) thus the intimacy with the reader goes deeper on a whole other level. As he left a mark on my psyche I left my watery marks on the pages.
