The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

This is a book I had been hearing a lot about on numerous platforms and just had to pick up. WOW WOW WOW I'm so glad I did.

Starr is a 16 year old black girl who is the sole witness to the shooting of her childhood friend by a white police officer. This story looks at the aftermath of this event.

This is a must read for 2018. If you're white you can never understand what the black community have to deal with on a day to day basis by white people, higher classes, or the judicial system. This book however will help you to listen, learn, and most importantly not to judge people because of their skin colour, background, or neighbourhood.

I loved Starr's dad, Big Mav, who is the most supportive and loving person. He is there every step of the way for Starr and his family through the turbulent times. Another stark contrast between the black community and white is that Starr and her brothers are taught from a young age to always be mindful when around police and address them respectively.

This is an important novel inspired by the black lives matter movement and is a must read for everyone!
