Heart of Ice and Flame by K.L. Perley
4.0
Deep in the Silverveil Mountains lies a kingdom wrought by a curse set by King Caledor. This curse has plagued his son Lord Arcturus for nearly 500 years. This curse states that Arc must find a human woman who he loves and must be loved by her in return to break the curse. As the years pass Arc’s heart grows more jagged and hateful feeling as though he will never find a human traveler to fall in love with.
In his ambition to break the curse, Arcturus has now set his sights on collecting the most magical beings in his lands to help capture and force each traveler to fall in love with him. The newest to his collection is Isolde, an extremely powerful shadow shifter with powers and mindset that rival that of Arc’s. As Isolde and Arc’s training sessions unfold they find an irresistible attraction, but there is only one rule… it must stay purely physical. Arc cannot afford to fall in love with anyone other than his human slave. But Isolde is over the days of being cast aside, she will not take this rejection without a fight.
Overall rating 4/5
In the second installment of the Silverveil series this book explains much of the details left out in Veil of Light and Shadow. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and the raw, gritty characters. This book takes us into the world of the villains and creates empathy for these troubled souls. I do love when authors have a slow burn romance that does not always end in a HEA, or the ending that we would expect. However…..what happened to Camryn? Will we have to wait until book 3 to finally find out where she ended up?
*Thank you to K.L. Perley for the ARC copy. I am freely leaving my honest review.
