Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass by Frederick Douglass
5.0
2nd reading: This book...one of the most powerful indictments of racism I've read. Of course this should be read in high schools and colleges...but also in churches. It makes clear the complicity of the Christian Church in the support and perpetuation of slavery, and this needs to (finally) be acknowledged universally, and apologized for along with a commitment for restitution.
Powerful! I am so glad I finally got around to reading this remarkable story of resilience, perseverance, and survival. This narrative should be required reading.
