The Empusium by Olga Tokarczuk
3.0
Started off really struggling with the first chapter, but after that it started to quietly intrigue me... and then unfortunately didn't really go anywhere overly satisfying for me.
An awful lot of conversations happening, a lot of men making outright sexist remarks around the lesser value of women, and I'm sure there was some Deep Point to this, but it didn't really get there for me.
There were repeated hints and allusions to something deeper and sinister happening, but it didn't really develop too much, and in between the hints the "plot" just meandered along.
I picked up on the queer coding quite early on, and was interested to see where that went.
But by the end it just reached quite an underwhelming conclusion that just sort of... was.
