This book combined all the elements I love in what I read right now: adventure, folklore, mystery, and romance. The best part was never knowing where the story would go because of all the moving parts at play. Would Ali solve the mystery? Would she write another chapter in the legend? Would she end up with any of the three MMCs presented? I never knew and it was awesome.

I love stories about myth and legend, and I love the scavenger hunt this one took Ali on. Not only was she trying to untangle the truth behind the bits of information she had, she was uncovering more about herself and her own life needs. Honestly, I think her story could’ve ended up a number of ways, depending on which path she took as the different options materialized in front of her. However, I particularly enjoyed her ending. She realized something important about herself and found a happy ending she wasn’t looking for at the start of her journey. But, this was also a story where her happy ending didn’t have to include a partner, and I particularly love how in control of her own story Ali was.

If you grew up in the southwest, or are even just a fan of southwestern folklore, you should read this book. As someone that grew up with the legends of the Lost Dutchman Mine, La Llorona, the Chupacabra, the legend of the coins and the love they represent hit closer to home for me than I expected.
