A Magical Girl Retires by Park Seolyeon

fast-paced
  • Plot- or character-driven? A mix

3.0

A cute little novella about modern day magical girls, with beautiful illustrations for the cover and chapters. Surprisingly dark at times, the author hints at criticism of how women fare in Korea. The main character's emotions were very real and easy to connect with.

This book seems like it would work better as a full length novel though. The pacing is too quick. The concept would really shine if the plot and characters had the space to be fleshed out. I'll keep an eye out for more translated works from this author.
