A Girl on the Shore by Inio Asano

3.0

Picked this up on a whim because it was on sale at the TCAF shop (RIP), the cover was interesting and the author was Eisner-nominated, though I've never read his work. The packaging and back cover blurb made it sound like an artsy slice of life thing and I guess it sort of is but only insofar as the kids are depressed and FUCKIN'. This was pretty surprising but I guess it explains why it was in plastic wrap at the shop.

Anyways despite all of THAT this actually does end up being a relatively standard slice-of-life and the presence of graphic sex scenes doesn't make it all that different from other works in the genre other than being more honest about what young teens get up to. Which is not nothing but when it ends up in the same place as other stories that don't have that, it makes you wonder why the 18+ stuff is even there, yknow?
