The Martian by Andy Weir
5.0
I was not expecting to love this book so much. I'd heard so many good things about it I was excited to start reading it. If you're not that much of a scientifically minded person, it might be a bit overwhelmingly science-y but I promise this did not stop me loving this book. At first I though it might be too much for me but it did not distract from how much I enjoyed the plot and the characters.
It's official. Mark Watney is one of my new all time favourite characters. His sense of humour and his sass were just perfection. I have tabbed so many of my favourite Watney commentaries. At the same time I completely admired his resourcefulness and determination to survive.
The other characters are also well developed and I thought it was really interesting being able to read from their side of the story as the plot progressed.
The only little thing missing for me was more of an 'ending'. I wish there was an epilogue or something to conclude and wrap up the story better. I feel like I couldn't rate it any lower because of this but it's just something I would have loved to have been included.
Other than that this book completely impressed and fascinated me. Made me cry and laugh out loud. And made it's way into my heart. Definitely one of favourites of the year so far.
