This was a highly recommended dark romance book that I really wanted to love, but a few things just fell short for me. To start, this author executes something complicated and dark in a really good way. But I personally felt like it lacked in some areas and could have dug a little deeper. I never understood why the MMC stayed with his GF/fiancée for FIFTEEN years when she was obviously the worst lol (even the author was obviously biased in the way she wrote her). There wasn't enough detail given about the basement (for example, what the hell did it look like? Why didn't they discuss escaping or if there were any tools down there?) I think listening to this on audio was a mistake, as I probably would have enjoyed it more if I read it; the narrators were not my favorite unfortunately.

I'm definitely in the minority here. I'm not saying this was a bad book, but I really wanted to sink my teeth into something more fucked up and dark and IDK what that says about me that I left feeling disappointed
