They Who Watch over the Night: A Wuxia Series by Konstantin Zaitsev, Konstantin Zaitsev

Training montage
This book reads as an extensive (and still interesting) training montage. He keeps being pushed and pulled in so many directions. Everyone seems to want or need something from him. The new partnership with Mei Li shows a bit of how these are teenagers, and Yang isn't blind to attraction. That said, I can't say whether they will end up as familial or if a romance will happen. It's an interesting quandary.
