Nathair had been dead for longer than he was alive and because what eating people in the "afterworld" did to him, all he wanted to was be left alone. Linh escaped an abusive man and Nathair saved her from the people who wanted to take her back to him. I liked that in the beginning it was her who was trying to get his attention and not the other way around. So many other Mavka went after their brides since they met and Nathair almost let a demon eat his. It was refreshing.
Linh is warm, despite her past, both physically and towards him. She's brave enough to not be afraid of him and she got another side of him. Linh got him to laugh with her and playing pranks when in the past he was avoiding everyone, even his own family. In a way Linh and Nathair helped each other heal. Nathair helped her move on slowly from what happened to her and she helped him sleep and with the voices.
Nathair and Linh were so sweet together, taking care of each other. She sang and hummed to him and he took care of her needs to the best of his capabilities. He made sure she was safe and that she didn't do anything she didn't want to. It was really sweet how at first he just wanted her to leave alone but it didn't even take him long to like how she made his home hers, even if he hated the shells.
All in all I had difficulty with choosing rating for this book. In the end I decided to give it full five stars because I didn't want it to end and wished that there was a sequel for just two of them. I really need to start picking up more monster romance.
