How to Solve Your Own Murder by Kristen Perrin
3.0
“Sometimes, even the best evidence can lead you to the wrong conclusions.”
Great narrative style! I love a multi-generational journal reveal delivery method. The mystery itself was wound around groups of characters featured in two different timelines, adding depth and complexity that, without it, may have deflated the plot substantially. The guessing game was short, but solid and interesting enough to keep you busy for a weekend!
Enh, I could’ve done without the “bad boy/good girl” bullshit. Actually, there were a lot of really strange (re: toxic) relationship dynamics just sort of accepted and forgotten about which put me off a bit. It’s hard to feel good about conclusions when character development is shaky. “But he changed!” Where? More importantly, how?
3/5 Great premise, good delivery, so-so character engagement.
