The Paris Apartment by Lucy Foley
3.0
The Paris Apartment is my first read of Lucy Foley and I was really looking forward to reading this - I think it's been on my TBR since release. I read this via Audiobook and I am so surprised to see that the page count is only 412 pages? The audiobook was super long! I honestly think if I was reading a physical copy of the book I may have put it down and never picked it back up again.
The prose was very slow and I have seen other reviewers say the same. I didn't realise this was her typical style as I've seen that The Guest List is similarly slow. I liked the multiple POVs and as a reader not knowing who to trust made an enjoyable thriller. Unfortunately I found most of the characters very unlikeable and didn't particularly like Jess, Ben's sister, who is the main POV.
The storyline was repetitive with a slow build-up, and it read as the same energy level throughout of high tension rather than peaks and valleys (if that makes any sense!). The pay off at the end of the slow intrigue was just not enough in my opinion. There were surprises and reveals I wasn't expecting but I felt like I was left with a lot of unanswered questions as there were plot holes.
I haven't seen another book by Lucy Foley that I'm interested in yet so I'm not sure I would read from this author again but we will see, maybe I'll give her writing another try in the future. I would recommend this book if you like a slow thriller with multiple POVs and if you like audiobooks, it has a full cast narration which I enjoyed.
⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3/5
