I’ve never read the epic this is based on and I wish I had. It’s hard to know what she got from the epic and what she imagined. Also  because of what I didn’t know going in it it did not take much for me to dislike Rama. Don’t get me wrong I still dislike him after looking into him I will say it’s slightly less if that makes sense. The characters throughout are all imperfect which I think it interesting because it’s not shoving in our faces this person is good and this one is bad though I felt it was heavily pushed at us that Rama is amazing and Kaikeyi is horrible as well as jealous in the research I did while reading.  I really loved that the author really went into the love they had for each other as mother and son before their relationship went up in flames. I also liked the “gods dont care for mortals” aspect. Hopefully my review makes since and if anyone reads this and has more insight into Rama I would love to hear it
