Blackfish City by Sam J. Miller

5.0

Set in Qaanaaq in the future after the climate wars, most countries are either under water or burnt to a crisp. Qaanaaq itself is a floating city in the artic and is populated by people of all nations. Qaanaaq is run by AIs so there's no need for human decisions making and they're impervious to bribery or corruption.

This book looks at corruption between shareholders and the crime syndicates. The novel itself is told from the point of view of Fill, Soq, Ankit, and Kaev who all are seemingly unconnected and their paths not crossing.

One day a woman comes to Qaanaaq riding an Orca with a Polar Bear at her side looking for something or someone.

It's not a book you can pick up and instantly love, it takes around 100 pages until you begin to understand what's going on and how everything is connected.
