Green Witch by Alice Hoffman
4.0
Alice Hoffman returns to finish Green's story of renewal and coping for good this time. While Green Angel was about the titular character's grief and how she overcame it, Green Witch is about the titular character helping others overcome their own grief, and through it all how she came to plant the seeds of a new life. Green is living well enough in her garden, the community of survivors of the fire in the first book are getting along slowly, until one day Green stumbles across a being known as The Finder. The Finder sets Green off on a journey to uncover the stories of the witches that live on the outskirts of her village, but the road leads her to reclaim loved ones she thought she lost.
Again, it IS Alice Hoffman, so the writing style is either a hit or a miss for readers. If you're not a fan of her writing, much less the first book, then you'll not enjoy this. Also, like the first book, it is a very light, very easy read. You could probably sit down and clear this if you had an afternoon to kill. I liked it just as much as the first book, but in all honesty it's not for everyone. If you like the kinds of books that use the emotions of the characters to heavily tell the story, rather than tons of action and scenery description, then you'll probably enjoy this. Since it's a sequel, and one that relies heavily on throwbacks to the first book, I definitley wouldn't recommend if you're unfamiliar with both Hoffman's writing or the first story. I recommend Incantation if you've never read any of this author's work before, rather than this or Green Angel. It's a little heavier of a read and the overall setup isn't as extreme in terms of character (aka character tattooing thorns and bats all over her body to express her anger and grief and a half of a heart when her love interest leaves her).
All in all, decent, but for already established Hoffman and Green fans.
