I decided to listen to this when I seen the plus catalog had it I had read hooked last year and loved it and kept on meaning to get back to this series ( but you know never ending tbr problems) I was pleasantly surprised when I learned it was a historical fiction romance based in the early 1900s. I loved the dark setting of the castle it had the best gothic vibes!! I know it’s not an officially a re telling but as a lion king and scar fan I ate up the references to it such as the shadow lands, little lion, the lion theme in general and the heynas! It also felt like this a mix of a little Robyn hood vibes as well.I loved both the main characters and thought they had such great chemistry!! Sarah b was soo strong and I loved her. Tristen has this air to him to that just was amazing. And together they where even better! They have a forbidden trope through most of the book and when they finally come together they where just *chefs kiss* . The ending gave me chills, I don’t want to spoil it but when Sarah b is talking to the hyenas and leading the rebels!! I just loved everything about it and the writting and the narrators did such a good job in making this book come to life!
