A Dangerous Thing by Josh Lanyon

5.0

Right, I'm officially obsessed with this series. I'm not even going to try and write an objective review.
"A Dangerous Thing" was literally the perfect sequel. New mysteries, new murders, the same old Adrien sleuthing about.
I find it hilarious that the overriding theme of this series is "Adrien's a murder magnet" and even though I really would like for him to be happy and safe *sighs* I'm very looking forward to reading about his next troubles.
Speaking of Adrien, I really really loved him in this one. His internal monologues were hilarious, I loved how witty and earnest he was and how he definitely knows who he is and doesn't try to hide it. It was also so damned refreshing to see the protagonist of a book being both hopeful about his romantic interest but also realistic about it? He knows he can't trust Jake just yet but he's also very aware that he's on his way to falling in love with him and he definitely knows he deserves something more.
The one thing I'm not sure I appreciated much was the fact that Adrien pretty much never spoke of what happened at the end of book one and I'm hoping it's because it's too soon for him and not because the author wanted him to be over it and to never think about it again. We'll see in the next books.

I liked Jake. It was nice to see more of him too but boy, was he frustrating and hurtful at times. I loved when he was being soft and open with Adrien but at times he really acted like an a**hole. They fit together nicely but Adrien deserves the world and Jake isn't ready or willing to give him that.

The small-town setting and the "ancient" atmosphere were wonderful and very vivid. The murder mystery was intriguing and this time I really wasn't sure who the culprit or culprits were. The side characters, Melissa especially, were very interesting and I'm hoping we'll get to see more of the ranch in the future.
