Dark Lover by J.R. Ward
5.0
I first heard about this series when I was 13 or so. Since then, I've heard it mentioned here and there. What the hell..... why is this not talked about more? All I see are readers suggesting mediocre vampire books/series and this is rarely (if at all) mentioned.
I started this randomly last night and could not put it down until it was finished. Ward has a fun writing style, it is quick and easy to read. Her cast was fun and unique. The story itself was genuinely enjoyable.
Wrath is a blind vampire king and one of the several brothers in the Black Dagger Brotherhood. When approached by one of his friends to help his daughter through the transition of becoming a vampire, Wrath initially refuses. But once his friend dies, he decides that he owes him and seeks out Beth, the half human half vampire daughter. Thus begins a series of steamy events that turn into one hell of a romance.
There aren't many jump out at you plot twists, and some of them are predictable, but that doesn't make this story any less compelling. I ate up every single thing Ward gave to us.
I did laugh at Wrath and Beth's first little....ahem scene, though. You have to be so hot for that to happen. A level of hotness that does not exist in the real world, and I was cracking up over it. That being said, I really enjoyed the spice.
I'm kicking myself for getting rid of the other books I had in this series, because I didn't think I would enjoy them. I had about six of the books collecting dust on my shelf for over a year and since I hadn't read them, made the decision I wouldn't ever. Now...I must go track them back down.
I highly recommend this series. It deserves more hype than it is getting in the book community right now. I'm looking forward to reading about the other brothers.
