It turns out the audiobook narration might've been ruining these books for me. I had to read this one in print and it came across as more humorous/ironic and less annoying/childish than everything I've listened to Clea Lewis narrate in the whiny voice (the Anne Hathaway narration of the first three books was good though, wish she could've done the whole series)
