The Hollow Places by T. Kingfisher

Ooh boy! That was fun and atmospheric and wonderfully unsettling - my guess that this took copious inspiration from Algernon Blackwood's The Willows was proven to be correct and has cemented my gut feeling that I reeeeaaally need to read that story. I enjoyed the characters, the descriptions and the general tone of the book (though I still found Kara's monologue and snark to be out of place at times). You can tell that Kingfisher loves writing and knows how to do it well - if her other books crank up the weirdness and atmospheric horror even more, I will pledge my readership to her forevermore.
