Days of Rage: America's Radical Underground, the Fbi, and the Forgotten Age of Revolutionary Violence by Bryan Burrough
4.0
The most thorough and balanced work I’ve read on the underground of the 70s and early 80s. Links between groups, both direct and through influence, are covered and Burrough is clear that sometimes the lack of willingness of participants to divulge information limits a complete picture.
Having studied radical political activism for years I was really pleased with the results of this book. I can almost envision a true crime series where, like the book, the view shifts from one perspective to another slowly pulling the larger picture together. Police perspectives, FBI involvement, underground and above ground activities, investigations into COINTELPRO, and public opinion are all covered.
4 stars due to a lack of a quick glossary of individuals, activities and groups as they can become confusing as the book moves from group to group in order to maintain timelines and interconnections. A chart of connectivity would have also been valuable.
