This was the ideal audiobook, honestly! The two MCs, Chrissy and Vin, are so in their heads that reading this on the page might not have been as impactful. They're two incredibly thoughtful people stuck in their mindsets, Vin as a heartbreaker and Chrissie as a person cursed with heartbreak. It's really hard for them to break out of their cycles.

Both of our characters' families are the most important things to them, with their careers coming second; for Vin, that's his brother's heartbreak and his growing cello celebrity bad boy persona, and for Chrissie, it's the women in her family's curse always to have their heart broken and her heartbreak hotel based in Traditional Chinese Medicine with her aunts. Their fake-dating romance is incredibly realistic to everyone they know, so they don't have to try that hard to fake it and instead focus on their personal development.

Chrissie's emotional growth is the most compelling. The women in her family work through their internalized perspectives on their curse, questioning it, discovering the truth in their family history, and working through their internalized misogyny. The book is beautifully written, and I was so intrigued by the mystery, translation, and passed-down stories that all led to believing in the curse.

The romance was cute, these two were meant to be and it made the rest of the story more interesting because the two were clearly down bad!
