Like Frank's previous book "What's the Matter with Kansas", this is a brilliantly revelatory analysis of American politics and government, that makes sense of the seemingly senseless. It is also, therefore, one of the most depressing books I've ever read, painting a picture of a cynicism and collapse so comprehensive that the mind boggles. Perhaps time will point a way out of this hell, but for me, right now, the future looks bleak.
