Cinder by Marissa Meyer
5.0
“Imagine there was a cure, but finding it would cost you everything. It would completely ruin your life. What would you do?”
Even though it has been 126 years since World War IV, a deadly plague has been rampaging across the Commonwealth for more than a decade now, brought by the people on the moon, the Lunars.
In what's now known as New Beijing, a cyborg human mechanic is totally oblivious to her own true identity as she lives a somewhat normal life making repairs in the city market. The people stay away from her with her metal and steel limbs and programming system. When she returns home to the apartment where she lives with her stepmother and stepsisters, she is kept busying fixing things.
“Do your kind even know what love is? Can you feel anything at all, or is it just... programmed?”
When Cinder is visited by the heir to the Emperor's throne, Prince Kai, to help him fix his android, she finds herself in a whole new situation as one thing leads to another. With Kai being the royal young prince, she realises how much she likes him, even though harboring the fact that she is cyborg.
With the fall of her beloved stepsister to whom she was dear, Cinder is blamed and sent off and there is no hiding what she does not even know herself. With a cure in question and secrets revealed in terms of Cinder's mysterious past, she is thrown into a whole new path.
"He may not know much about Cinder, but if she could find out about the lost Lunar princess, then he could find out more about her.”
Prince Kai has to step up to the position of Emperor over the Commonwealth with the death of his father. Unprepared for the duties expected of him, we see the young emperor struggle to make the right choices that are best for everyone. With pressure from the deceitful Lunar Queen Levana, tensions are high and the need for lasting peace is at stake. Though marriage has been the request of the queen, Kai has found another option, or rather, is still researching, in the hopes of saving their planet from the cruelness of the Lunar people.
When the Kai meets Cinder in need of her help, he begins to fall for her, not realising what or who she is.
Little does he know, she's their only hope...
“Soon, the whole world would be searching for her -Linh Cinder.
