The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling
3.0
3.5 stars. Overall, an enjoyable collection of animal stories and adventures! There were obviously some problematic lines and morals woven throughout because colonialism, but it also wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. The old timey language used in dialogue was also off-putting and very inconsistent... why half the characters needed to use thee/thou/ye at irregular times was a baffling decision.
Mowgli's Brothers: 3 stars. A solid intro to Mowgli and friends.
Kaa's Hunting: 4 stars. Baloo and Bagheera are a gay couple and they are adorable.
Tiger! Tiger!: 3.5 stars. Getting the wolf pack back together.
The White Seal: 3 stars. Much cute, but also quite slow and Kotick turned out to be an asshole.
Rikki-Tikki-Tavi: 4 stars. A favorite from middle school English class, and still a favorite upon reread!
Toomai of the Elephants: 1 star. NOTHING HAPPENS.
Her Majesty's Servants: 2.5 stars. A roller coaster of boredom, excellent animal philosophy, and a problematic moral a the end.
