When We Collided by Emery Lord

5.0

(My original review can be found on my blog: http://tayandgriffepperson.blogspot.com/2016/04/when-we-collided.html

When We Collided starts with Vivi carving into a tree "Vivi was here" which is something she likes to write nearly everywhere. Throughout the story she talks of how fleeting life is, how her wardrobe will last longer that she will, so she wants to leave her mark. Which she does quite well.

Then there is Jonah (sigh my 16 year old heart). He lost his dad six months before, and he and his two older siblings are now running the show because their mom is too depressed to even get out of bed most days.

Jonah and Vivi meet. And [to feed my guilty pleasure] fall in love. I love romance novels. But this was so much more than that. As the story goes on, we realize that Vivi also has depression and Bipolar disorder. Jonah and Vivi are really just two teenagers trying to figure out how to live. They are trying to figure out how to function. The story is beautiful, and teaches great life lessons. And I need to stop writing about the story or else I'm just going to spoil everything.

I liked this book because it was very real. I have anxiety so mental disorders aren't exactly a mystery to me. Emery Lord did a really good job about writing about mental disorders within this book. I loved how she wrote it. and I honestly think that there should be more books like this. This book will tug at your heart strings, and make you want to turn page after page until you know what happens to Jonah and Vivi. You fall in love with both of them right at the beginning. It really is a great book. I give it five stars!!

This book does discuss hard topics. I don't believe it is for the faint hearted, because some parts were hard to read, even though it was a really good book. If you want to read a contemporary novel, this is it. And I promise, you will enjoy it.
