An excellent, rollicking tale
pros:
- thrilling tale as usual, with a neat plot and good writing.
- balances the emotional moments well with swells and dips of hope and despair.
- The continued inclusion of Ashua and Samandra and others was great, i like them.
- I liked that it was a primarily happy ending, for Crake, Frey, etc. To have it end on a low wouldn't have felt right.
- The twists were great, some of them I kinda guessed, but they were enjoyable all the same. Wooding always does a great job of making a complex plot and this didn't disappoint; even towards the end of the book it felt like the odds were too great but it all worked out.
cons:
- i was pretty convinced throughout that everything would turn out good (which was what i wanted) so that did take some of the anticipation out of it.
- It still felt fatphobic in the way that fat characters in the story could be at best, a father figure (Malvery), or worse, stupid and disgusting (Pinn). Some of the foul humour was just gross.
- Another reason it didn't get 5* was that even when I think I was meant to be very emotional, I wasn't. I cared and was gripped but it didn't make me cry or get particularly emotional.
Still, overall, a good and worthy end to the series!
