Hokey Pokey by Jerry Spinelli

4.0

Jack and his friends live in Hokey Pokey, a Neverland-like place where everyone is a child. Their lives are consumed with play - riding bikes, watching cartoons, playing on the playground. But one day, something changes in Jack, and he realizes that his life will never be the same.

This novel is written in verse, and it took me awhile to get into it at first. But once I let myself get lost in the magical world of Hokey Pokey, I fell for it. It's a beautiful coming of age story. Not sure if kids will like it though - I'll have to test it out on a couple of my readers in August.
