My Contrary Mary by Jodi Meadows, Brodi Ashton, Cynthia Hand
4.0
Mary Queen of Scots is definitely a very fun one for these and it was great to get a glimpse at Edward and Jane and G and Elizabeth, but this felt way more condensed than any of the rest have felt. Events and emotions weren't really given the time to land, particularly with Ari and Liv, like.... Ari made a lot of choices for a girl she's hung out with exactly one time. I feel like none of her motivations stood up to even the slightest bit of scrutiny, which is a shame because if they'd just been given time to breathe, it wouldn't be that outrageous. Since it wasn't though, Ari came off as frivolous and too changeable and it made me believe in precisely none of her relationships - hers and Francis' just as much as hers and Liv's and hers and Mary's. None of them felt... solid in the least because Ari was so... cloud fluff and nothing?
