Normally I try to avoid short stories. As I've mentioned in other reviews, I tend to find the ideas never fully fleshed out and I read very fast so just as I start to enjoy them they end. However this was wonderful. I'm not even a big fan of fairy tale retellings (aside from anything Beauty and the Beast) as they tend to be Young Adult and most of them don't really feel like anything new was added to the story. However this was definitely intended for an adult reader and while it was still a retelling it felt like something different. I would have loved for it to have been longer but it didn't end feeling unfinished and I enjoyed it from the first page. It will likely not be everyone's cup of tea but if you are looking for a more adult-themed retelling with some actual bite and nuance then you should give this a try.
