I don’t know how to feel about this book. Overall, I found it much harder to get into and enjoy as compared to the first one. I still appreciated the moral and political conundrums that the character faced in this story. I also thought that Ellis’ portrayal of Cora’s trauma was realistic, as it wasn’t something that she was able to quickly get over. However, I disliked almost everything to do with Kaveh. I found him to be annoying and an almost unnecessary addition. I especially did not care for the relationship between him and Cora. While the book does show that they’re both aware of the issues around the imbalances in their relationship, I still didn’t care for it. Confusingly, I did find the final passages of the book, which are written from Kaveh’s perspective, to be the most meaningful and poignant part of the book.
