Summer Frost by Blake Crouch

4.0

'Consciousness is a horror show. You search for glimpses of beauty to justify your existence.'

wow i kinda hate myself for putting Blake Crouch's books off for so long. i went in with low expectations bc short stories are usually very forgettable/mediocre for me, but this was so good

a video game developer falls in love with a character she's created -- a doomed romance, humans adopting the role of God, what is humanity, AI and consciousness.... loads of very very interesting topics successfully covered in less than 100 pages

robots and AI are my fav thing to read about it in sci-fi, so i'm not too surprised that this worked so well for me. if you're interested in artificial intelligence, gaming, or techno thrillers, you might really like this one!!

(it also gave me maaajor ex machina vibes. i'm obsessed)
