Blood of the Lamb: A Novel of Secrets by Sam Cabot

3.0

I'm giving 3 stars for the fact that I was entertained long enough to read the entire thing. The story and writing, however, probably only deserve 2 stars.

It's super quick; I managed to get through it in a couple of days. Admittedly, I did skim over a few parts that were slightly tedious. These were mainly the parts that dealt with the Gendarmes and the Carabinieri. I think the story could have been developed much better without having the police involved because their involvement didn't add anything to story. I suspect that the purpose of having them was to add some suspense, but since they were never close to catching anyone it just made for boring reading. I don't think I missed any serious plot twists by skipping past a few paragraphs.

Blood of the Lamb was billed as The Historian meets The Da Vinci Code which is probably why this book ended up in my "to read" pile. I thoroughly enjoyed The Historian and managed to be happily distracted by The Da Vinci Code. Unfortunately, Blood of the Lamb fell far from either of these two works. The story was incredibly rushed (it takes place in one day) with far too many side stories and far too many unnecessary characters.

The only connection I can really see, as far as The Historian is concerned, is that there are vampires.

The book is ten years old and my opinion of it may have been different had I read it ten years ago and before I had read anything by Dan Brown.

If you want to read a book that falls into this genre then I would highly recommend reading The Historian. It remains to this day one of my favorites.
