The Reckoning by Sharon Kay Penman

5.0

"Poor Wales, so far from Heaven, so close to England". I finished. . .and I feel broken. Much like the first book in the trilogy I devoured all 600+pages. Despite knowing the history, I could not help but feel each blow to the Welsh as keenly as if I were witnessing it in real time. I hoped against hope for a happy ending, but life is not "fair" and kings bent on conquest do not often allow to linger survivors who might rise up again in "rebellion". Very engaging read, particularly for those with an interest in medieval history.
