Game by Anders de la Motte

3.0

This was an enjoyable read. I didn’t have particularly high expectations for it as I bought it on a whim from the Pound store but the blurb looked interesting. Henke is your average fail of a human being who gets by in life from short gig jobs, petty crime and a lot of charm. One day on a train he notices someone has left a phone on the seat across from his, certainly not one to hand it in he grabs it but is surprised when he starts receiving messages inviting him to play a game. What follows is an escalating series of challenges which Henke quickly gets addicted to. When things take a darker turn and Henke’s sister Rebecca is hurt and Henke is forced to start running from the mysterious organisation behind the game who seem to have eyes everywhere. This book was hard to get into, I’m not even sure why as it was fast paced and there was plenty going on... I just kept putting it down and getting distracted. After I got past the halfway point though I found it much easier to get into. I enjoyed the characters in the book even if I found Rebecca slightly bland, she provided a nice contrast to the perpetual car crash that was her brother. A fun read but I’m not sure I’ll go out of my way to continue with the series.
