Ahhhh this was SUCH a cool, interesting, intriguing, FUN read! I never read this series as a kid, but my boyfriend and I exchanged the series on Christmas Eve and decided to read them together and then watch the new HBO series. First book down and I am HOOKED. I'll admit, at first, I was a little worried. There was a lot going on and a lot of strange words and pronunciations that usually make me cringe and run away because I worry I've missed something. But, I'm so glad I kept with it, and the more I read, the deeper I fell into this mysterious world.

Pullman has a unique and addicting writing style. I loved the adventure he took me on and I fell in love with every single character. I have so many questions now at the end of this first book and can't wait to start #2!

Highly recommend to anyone who loves Harry Potter and the like. It gave me the feels I had when I read that series as a kid. I love escaping into another world where mystery and action abound. On to The Subtle Knife!
