The Pucking Wrong Number by C.R. Jane
Did not finish book. Stopped at 63%.
DNF at 63%, but I did skim through the rest out of curiosity.
Listen, I love a walking red flag MMC and I like stalker romances, but this one was just not it for me. Lincoln was cringey as hell to me. The reason he has for Monroe as to why she has a claim on him and shouldn’t be worried, when they hadn’t even hooked up or hung out more than twice??? Girlfriend should’ve immediately ran.
There was no depth to the relationship here, Monroe just happened to be mouthy and not throwing herself at Lincoln via text because she had no idea the wrong number texter belonged to a famous NHL player. There’s not really any other reason for Lincoln being into her/obsessed from jump.
Finally…This writing style just didn’t work for me. It was so repetitive. I didn’t need to read the same scene from both Monroe and Lincoln’s POV. Especially not the text conversations.
I personally love dark romance and was fine reading the material as far as I got, but I think this needs to be marketed better as a DARK hockey/sports romance and not just a hockey/sports romance. There are some trigger warnings that I feel should be added, especially given that it’s not overly marketed as a dark romance. It’s my understanding that there weren’t any trigger warnings initially so it seems the author has addressed this concern, but I do think there a few others that should be added.
