The Fiery Cross by Diana Gabaldon

4.0

The sweep of this book is so much smaller than others in the series, and more detailed. The descriptions can become tedious, but I generally enjoy the minutiae that hold historical significance. The brief nods to Native American Indian history, past and more modern, are a valuable addition, but still very brief. The African American characters’ experiences are acknowledged as affected by slavery, but still merely supportive to the privileged white narrative. This balance was handled better in the previous novel.
