The Lights of Prague by Nicole Jarvis

3.0

I started this book in the summer of last year and it just crept by, so I put it down.
Then, seven months later, I picked it back up thinking I could get back into it, and while I finished, I can't say that I really loved it as much as I had hoped I would.

The supernatural and paranormal aspect was interesting and I liked the overall concept. I actually think that for a standalone, it was as in depth as I was going to get plot wise but I almost wish it had been made into a series so that the characters could develop more. They truly fell flat for me, as did the world-building. It was as if the author relied on the real-world setting to speak for itself. Prague is a beautiful, gothic city with a rich culture and I just didn't get that from this book. It felt like it could have been set anywhere and had the same effect.

Considering I put it down and didn't feel the urge to get back to it until now, and how underwhelming the first 2/3 of it was, I do have to give it the benefit of the doubt because the ending was a lot more action packed (minus the kind of out-of-place romance scene), so I give it a solid 3 stars.
