Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl by Harriet Ann Jacobs
5.0
Stunning read that blasts you with the intensity of a novel - if Douglass's Narrative is a novel of adventure, Jacobs is sentimental and adventure combined together. The allusions to the sexual abuse that female slaves faced are a side of slavery that the male narratives don't really explore, and seeing the trials of being a "runaway" evading capture is also a huge factor in setting this apart from so many other writings on the subject.
